Appetite.

Appetite is like a fire. Do not be fooled to feed the fire as much as the fire desires, for all of the earth would be consumed by flame. It is best that this projection of the mind not be fed, rather acknowledged, and ultimately ignored. Think to yourself about the interactions you have with a child. The child tells you of all of their desires, and exaggerates these desires to you. The child is consumed by appetite, yet you do not feed the child with everything they ask for. In the same way, manage your own appetite. Take on a perspective that is larger than the perspective you naturally hold, and use that perspective to channel the inner adult for your inner child. From this perspective you may enjoy an even temperament that will free you from the slavery of your appetite. Be wary to see your appetite as your needs; for the appetite will grow and consume you entirely.

The Storm.

The winds were felt upon the fields days before. A new air brought in, fresher and sweeter than the air it replaced. The sun rose and fell twice to more and more clouds each day, they came with the wind. The winds came to a stop, and for just one moment there was silence. The air was charged with energy, but the energy was stagnant, simply sitting. The light came as a blinding flash, the thunder deafening as it shook the very foundation of the earth. As if activated by the lightning, the entire earth began moving. The air began vibrating with electric current, booming sound, falling rain and ice. The plant life and the animals were pulled and pushed by violent winds. The energies were so vigorous and powerful, much life was taken by the beast, and the beast raged for days. Then once again a silence fell over the land. Total stillness existed for those who would step out of shelter and back into the wilderness. The field was fresh, and the terrain was new. The beast destroyed much, and there was room for more life to be had. When one sees the storm with fear, they do not understand it, for it is truly a magnificent work of art.

A New Journal

I bring you a new journal. Though I have had thousands of thoughts in life, and though these have brought me to acknowledge a certain set of truths, the one thing I have concluded is that the more I understand the more I have to learn. I have created this journal to share my story as I develop as a professional in the coffee industry. I wish to share some experiences I have along the way, and to encourage new thought and new discussion about age-old ideas. May I challenge you as you challenge me, and as iron does to iron, may we both be sharpened.
